No one surfer is the same and we all move differently as we get up onto our boards. This is why it is so important to know the type of equipment that you need and especially so when it comes to choosing your wetsuit. If you choose the wrong type for you and your body then it will end up affecting your surfing technique and your overall performance out there on the ocean. You need to figure out what your needs are and how you need to move whilst on your surfboard.

There are a number of different men’s billabong wetsuits to choose from and so this makes choosing the correct one for you a little bit more difficult. It’s a nice situation to find yourself in but if you want to be able to experience the right technique, to get the best performance whilst on your board and to meet your surfing goals then the following are just some top tips to help you choose your new wetsuit.

1. Your surfing level – If you are just a beginner then this is something that you have to take into consideration when you choose what kind of wetsuit you would like to wear. Clearly, you won’t have the same needs as someone who has been surfing for some time now and it is likely that your technique will change over time so you can be your best self. At the very beginning, you need to be able to move freely on your surfboard and you need lots of buoyancy as well when you fall off your board.

2. Be sure to choose the right size – Once you have decided on the model of wetsuit that you would like and hopefully it will be the one described above then you need to figure out your size. You want your wetsuit to fit you quite well and you don’t want it to be loose either. This stops water from coming inside which will make you incredibly uncomfortable. If your wetsuit doesn’t fit you probably and it will cause chafing and discomfort while you are trying to surf.

3. Figure out your budget – It may be the case that you have only a certain amount of money to spend on your wetsuit but you should understand that just because something is expensive, it doesn’t mean that it is the best fit for you. You shouldn’t choose a wetsuit based on price anyway and if you consider the above two suggestions then it’s likely that you will get the right wetsuit for your needs that keeps you safe in the water. The same rule applies when a wetsuit is one of the cheaper options because this doesn’t mean that it is inferior and so this might be the perfect one for you as well.

The main thing is that you take your time and you pick out the wetsuit that is going to allow you to surf better and improve over time. At that point, you may want to think about changing to a different wetsuit or sticking with the one that you already have.
